KO Mbadiwe University Visits Acting Vice-Chancellor, Fetes Prof. A.C. Onyeka

On Monday, March 3, 2025, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education, Owerri, Prof. Aloysius Chijioke Onyeka, played host to a delegation from Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University (KOMU), Ideato, Imo State. The delegation, made up of Principal Officers and staff of KOMU, had come on a courtesy visit to felicitate with their former colleague, Prof. Onyeka, who until recently had served as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor at KOMU before his appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to lead Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education.

The air was warm with camaraderie as Prof. Onyeka welcomed his guests. In his words, he didn’t hold back his gratitude: “I thank you all for finding time to visit me.” Reflecting on his time at KOMU, he gave credit where it was due. “All that happened in KOMU was because the Vice-Chancellor, Professor I.N.S. Dozie, is a leader indeed, who has also been my mentor. He gave me the opportunity to work with him as a contemporary and remains an astute leader to be emulated.”

Turning his gaze to his new assignment, Prof. Onyeka said: “I am focused on my mandate in Alvan, and by the grace of God, it will be achieved. The new and old management teams have been supportive,” he assured his visitors, signaling his readiness to hit the ground running.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Dozie said of Prof. Onyeka, “Coming to Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education was not his intention at all. It was the design of God for him. You should support him and learn from him because he has so much to give intellectually and otherwise.”

But Prof. Dozie didn’t shy away from letting his true feelings slip. “I was not happy with Alvan for snatching Prof. Onyeka, who was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of KOMU before his appointment,” he admitted with a smile. Then, with a touch of mischief, he added, “All the achievements enumerated by my PRO were achieved by Prof. Onyeka. He ran half of KOMU and did so creditably, being extremely humble in nature.” He went on to reveal that all the high-profile courses in KOMU had been accredited, thanks to Prof. Onyeka’s efforts.

The Vice-Chancellor of KOMU also appreciated the former Vice-Chancellor of AIFUE, Professor Stella Ngozi Lemchi, for all her efforts in returning the University status of Alvan. He reminded everyone that it is not easy to be a leader, as one has to think on one’s feet and endure sleepless nights. He eulogized Prof. Lemchi and acknowledged that she had done a lot for the Alvan community and wished her well in all her future endeavours.

In her response, the Acting Registrar of AIFUE, Mrs. Ngozi Megwa appreciated God for sending Prof. Onyeka to Alvan. She noted that in the few weeks she had worked with him, she had come to hold him in high esteem and she was assured that he will make a great impact and change the narrative in the University. She expressed her confidence that Prof Onyeka will move AIFUE to greater heights with his vast experience from federal and state institutions. She prayed that God would continue to help him and promised that the Management team would work with him to achieve the success of his mandate.

Prof. I.S. Iwueze, the Director of Academic Planning at KOMU, joined the chorus of goodwills. “I thank God for giving him (Prof. Onyeka) to Alvan,” he said. “God will use him to change the institution.”
