During Dr. Uche’s tenure, four Extension Service Centres were opened namely: Aba, Ohiafia, Umuahia and Uzuakoli Extension Centres. These Centres were running their programmes in line with the College regulations and their questions and results were handled by Alvan Ikoku College of Education, Owerri. The first Extension Service Centre Diploma and NCE result was published during the tenure of Mrs. Hope Osuji. The tenure of Mrs. R.C. Ukaga witnessed the establishment of four other Centres namely: Mbaise, Ehime Mbano, Okigwe and Orlu Centres. These Centres functioned for only two years and were later closed down by government instruction on satellite campuses.

During the tenure of Dr. A.O. Ekwe, the Centre helped the College in planning and implementing Human Capacity Development Workshops for UBEC Abuja and Federal Teachers Scheme (FTS) participants.

Dr. N. Nwigwe took over from Dr. M.N. Obasi in Jan 2014. During her tenure the PDE graduates were for the first time inducted into the teaching profession by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria in April, 2015.

Statutory Functions and Duties of the Centre

Before now, the Centre for Continuing Education was made up of four separate units. The professional Diploma in Education, Evening and Weekend programme, Sandwich and Extra Mural Units. The CCE which is headed by the Director has three Coordinators who run the affairs of the operational units under it. The PDE unit is headed by Dr. P.C Nwizu while the EWP is headed by Dr. Ijeoma Ezebuike. The Sandwich unit is manned by the Ajuzie Ndubuisi.

The PDE programme was established in the College in 2012 with 96 candidates admitted in 2012/2013 academic year. The P  rofessional  Diploma in Education (PDE) is a one year programme charged with the responsibility of producing professional diploma graduates in Education. Teaching practice exercise and project writing are part of the requirements for graduation just as in the Evening and Weekend, and Sandwich Programmes.

The Evening and Weekend Programme (EWP) before now, ran both Degree and NCE courses, but presently, it runs only NCE courses because of non-availability of students for its Degree programme as well as the discontinuation of the Degree programme by the parent institution-University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

The Sandwich programme (S/W) runs both Degree and NCE courses though their population is dwindling. The Extramural programme is meant to prepare candidates for SSCE/NECO/GCE and JAMB examination. However, the programme is at present not operational because of lack of candidates.
